Choosing Your Adoption Plan
Please know that the adoption journey is just that, a journey. So if you are unsure about how much openness you want or what is important to you in an adopting family, let’s talk about it and come up with a plan that feels right for you.
Open Adoption - You choose a family for your baby
We will ask you to share what qualities are important to you in a family for your baby. We will then show you profiles of families that match what you are looking for. Once you find a family that you feel is perfect for your baby, we will connect you with the family. You will have the chance to talk, text and meet with the family during your pregnancy and at the hospital. You will also have direct ongoing contact with the family before and after you deliver and place your baby. You will continue to exchange pictures, phone calls, texts, letters, visits and updates over the next 18 years of your child’s life.
Semi-Open Adoption - You can choose a family for your baby
We will ask you to share what qualities are important to you in a family for your baby. We will then show you profiles of families that match what you are looking for. Once you find a family that you feel is perfect for your baby, you can choose to connect with the family. You can choose to talk, text and meet with the family during your pregnancy and at the hospital. You can choose to have direct ongoing contact with the family before and after you deliver and place your baby. You can choose to exchange pictures, phone calls, texts, letters, visits and updates over the next 18 years of your child’s life. Or you can choose to have all communications go through Hudson Hearts.
Closed Adoption - You can ask Hudson Hearts to choose a family for your baby
We will ask you to share what qualities are important to you in a family for your baby. You can ask Hudson Hearts to choose the adopting family. All communications can go through Hudson Hearts and you can choose not to have a direct exchange of information between you and the adopting family.
If when you start out on this journey, a semi-open adoption or even a closed adoption feels right, you can always decide later to have more contact, if that is something you feel ready for. Together, Hudson Hearts can help you choose the type of adoption that you feel is best for you and your baby.
