Alecia & Amit

Dear Birth Mom,
We are Alecia and Amit. It is so nice to meet you! Thank you for taking the time to read through our book. We are committed to raising your child in a loving home and we hope that our values around openness, kindness, and fun, resonate with you.
We think it is very brave that you have chosen to consider adoption, and we understand that the decision in front of you is not an easy one. We will always be open and honest with you, so please let us know if there is anything more you would like to know about us.
With love and gratitude,
Alecia & Amit

Our Adoption Story & Promise to You
Adoption is something that we have always thought about. After learning that we were not able to have biological children, we immediately knew that adoption was the right path for us – and had been all along. We feel that the act of adoption creates such a special relationship between a child and all parents (birth parents and adoptive parents), and we are excited to be a part of this beautiful process.
We have a passion for new experiences and learning along the way. From our love of travel (more on that later in this book!), to us both playing organized sports and musical instruments (piano and cello for Alecia, piano and the double bass for Amit), we would love nothing more than to prioritize giving your child the opportunity to try extracurricular activities of all sorts. All of what we have experienced as kids ourselves, and now as adults, have encouraged our open-minded outlook – we try not to impose our beliefs on others and focus on understanding others’ points of view.
As parents, our style would be loving and encouraging. We want your child to always feel supported. We recognize that parenting is not always easy, and we promise to handle those moments with tremendous care and unconditional love, always being sure that your child will never have to worry about disappointing us. We will lead with open and honest communication and won’t be afraid to get on the floor and play!
Most importantly, your child will grow up in a home surrounded by our unconditional love and support. We will make sure that they have every opportunity to explore their interests, and we will always keep them safe.

About Us
We met through a mutual friend in New York City back in 2010. Alecia grew up in Toronto and moved to New York to start a new job, and Amit grew up in Texas and moved to New York for school. We became good friends first, and our shared interest in trying new activities and exploring New York City made us an inseparable twosome. Within about a year, our friendship turned into a committed relationship, and we haven’t looked back! We had a beautiful wedding in Mexico – it was truly amazing to celebrate our love with so many important people in our lives.
Our favorite thing to do together is explore new places, including our own city. We love wandering around neighborhoods we don’t know very well – it feels like there is always something new to see! Some of the weekend activities that made us inseparable are our love of movies, TV, and live theater. Sitting in a movie theater is so much fun for the two of us, and we have a sweet spot for independent movies. As for TV, we are currently watching The Sopranos from the beginning, we have covered Seinfeld from beginning to end and just finished The White Lotus. Essentially if it’s a show set in NYC, about NYC, dealing with people around our age, or dealing with travel, we are all in! Living in NYC, there is no shortage of live theater. Our trick: show up to the theater the day of a show to get last-minute but super cheap tickets!
We really enjoy spending time together, even if that means just relaxing at home. Our spare time is usually spent cooking or eating a quick meal out, catching up on our days, or exercising – yoga is our latest go-to.

About Alecia
Through Amit’s Eyes
I have known Alecia for the past 15 years, and she amazes me as much today as she did when we first met. She is kind, open-minded, and encouraging and makes it her priority to make sure those around her are happy.
Alecia is definitely the organizer in our relationship. She has always planned the most fun trips, found the most amazing restaurants, and even chose the location for and did the majority of the planning (I tried to help where I could!) for our wedding and honeymoon. Her ability to speak Spanish and French has certainly helped! She also has an incredible ability to multi-task and juggle whatever lands on her plate. And no matter how busy she is, she somehow always manages to stay grounded and makes time for herself, and for us.
Alecia’s hobbies include reading, crosswords, tennis, pickleball, volleyball, softball, and yoga. She is always in the middle of a fiction book she has picked up from our local library. But above all, hiking is without a doubt what she is most passionate about. She loves being outside, admiring the beautiful nature all over the world, including the Hudson Valley where we live. She will even tell you that hiking makes her feel calm.
After graduating from law school, Alecia worked as an attorney for several firms. She now works on the leadership team of a small company which has been the perfect fit. Her job offers her a ton of flexibility, including working from home. I know this is important to Alecia for when we are lucky enough to welcome home a little one.
I have no doubt that when Alecia becomes a mother (something she has been dreaming about for a long time), she will be a natural. I have seen her ability to love and nurture and take on new roles seamlessly. She is going to be the most amazing mom.
About Amit
Through Alecia’s Eyes
Amit is a very giving and generous person. He is very aware of others’ needs and interests. I love that he is always the person in a group who makes sure every other person is happy with the plan, and who will talk to someone at a party who is by themselves. He is also very patient. Amit is the kind of guy who goes out of his way to do nice things for others and loves surprising me with little gifts or on special outings that he has planned.
He is also very curious and open-minded. He is a very good listener and doesn’t jump to conclusions without hearing others’ points of view. Amit loves to read articles about interesting/niche topics, he loves artsy films and many different genres of less mainstream music. His music taste was influenced by some great music teachers he had growing up, and local radio stations, where he fell in love with 80s New Wave (Depeche Mode, The Smiths) and 90s indie (Radiohead).
He also loves to practice yoga and go for long distance runs, and he has been a swimmer his whole life. He has a great eye for art and fashion and spends lots of time at the MOMA museum. He has been a huge sports fan his whole life and now that he works for a professional sports organization, he is especially invested in basketball.
I know with all my heart that Amit will be the most amazing father. From creating special moments and traditions with your child to being a positive influence, and to supporting them throughout their life, he will always love your child unconditionally. I am so excited to see him as a dad (hopefully one day soon!).
Travel & Adventure
New experiences and ideas excite us. We enjoy traveling! Our first real trip together was to Colombia, and since then we have traveled to over 20 countries across 5 continents.
Back in 2019, we actually got the opportunity to backpack around Asia for nearly 6 months. We love trying new food, meeting new people, and becoming familiar with new cultures and traditions. It helps that we both have at least one parent who was born in another country! Short road trips and exploring close to home are also a big part of our lives.
We are so excited to share our love of adventure with your child one day. Sharing these experiences as a family of three is what we have been dreaming about!

Our Home
Our home is a cozy farmhouse in the Hudson Valley region of New York State, about two hours north of New York City. It backs onto a beautiful nature preserve, which is great because Alecia loves to go on long walks! Our favorite room is the kitchen, where Alecia can show off her cooking skills, followed by the living room where we binge our favorite shows at night.
We live in a pretty quiet town, but we have a great pizza spot and the best coffee shop in the tri-state area (maybe we are just a little biased!). We also get to enjoy the beautiful outdoors in every direction around us.
We also spend a lot of time in New York City. We own an apartment there and our jobs are based in the city, and we enjoy going in frequently. We are proud to have gotten to know the city very well and have a number of favorite places in many different neighborhoods, but Brooklyn was our home the longest and it has a special place in our hearts.
Our Loved Ones

Alecia’s family (her parents, brother, and sister) is from and lives in Toronto, Canada. Alecia visits Toronto often, especially now that we have a niece and a nephew who we absolutely adore – we never give up an opportunity to spend time with these two! We spend the holidays with Alecia’s family every year (Christmas, Easter, and Canadian Thanksgiving!). We are also very close with Alecia’s extended family, including her many cousins.
Amit has a small family – his mom and dad still live in the town he grew up in (just outside of Dallas, Texas) and his sister is now an ER nurse in Boise, Idaho. His good friends are all ones he made in undergrad at Tulane University, and he keeps up with them regularly on WhatsApp to discuss Fantasy Football and updates on everyone’s families.
Kim and Taylor, and their children, Edith and Andy are two of our friends who we share a special bond with. They live in New Orleans, where Amit met them, and we visit them several times a year. We love visiting New Orleans for all of the festivities (especially around Mardi Gras time), and they are like family to us.
Everyone has been so excited and supportive of our decision to grow our family through adoption. It has been really special for us to think about just how much love will surround your baby.
Holidays & Traditions
We try to celebrate the big holidays in style. We love dressing up for Halloween, and we usually host a party for our friends at that time of year. For Thanksgiving, we try to spend time with Amit’s family in Dallas and for Christmas, we head to Toronto to be with Alecia’s family.
Birthdays and anniversaries are also reasons for us to celebrate (including our own anniversary which is April 6th!). From summer BBQs to Mother’s Day/Father’s Day, we always love a reason to celebrate with our family and friends!

We really want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read our book. We can’t thank you enough for even just considering us as adoptive parents for your child. We are so excited to become parents, and we can only hope that you can sense just how ready and committed we are to loving not only your child, but you too.
We are keeping you close to our hearts and are 100% ready when you are.
With love and gratitude,
Alecia & Amit
