Our Adoption Story & Promise to You

From the moment we met, becoming parents has always been a part of the discussion. If it were biologically possible, I’m sure we would have started on the parenting path sooner. Every time we spend time with our family, we can feel our heartstrings tugging. Will is one of seven siblings, and there are 27 nieces and nephews on that side alone. Being with them is always a reminder of the joy family can bring. For us, it has never been a matter of if but when.

Over the last decade, we have grown as friends, teammates, soul mates, and travel companions. Becoming parents is our next great adventure together. We are excited to open this chapter in our lives, and we promise to give it our all. We have been thinking about what kind of parents we want to be, and while we know that we will remain flexible, there are a few constants we can promise you and your baby. We promise to bring your child into a safe home where they will be respected and appreciated. We pledge to love them unconditionally and to lead by example. We will live boldly and truthfully, leading with kindness and always remaining a system of support to your child. In our home, we champion education, empathy, and diversity of thought. Our parenting style will be rooted in learning. And that begins with us learning who your child is and how to best guide them as they become the person that they were ultimately born to be. We will try our best to do this with unconditional love and strength.

We promise to continue to do the personal work to maintain a healthy mental and emotional state of being. We promise to stay on the path of discovery as we evolve together as a family unit. The idea of bringing a new human into our family has already brought so much joy into our lives and those around us. When the moment arrives, we promise not to take it for granted.

About Us

We first met at Tue Thai in the West Village of Manhattan, after chatting for weeks online about our favorite musicians and recent travel destinations. Brandon always says he knew Will was the one after locking eyes with him the very first time.

In many ways, we haven’t been apart since. Our early days consisted of visiting that same restaurant over and over until it closed down.

Our mutual passions took us to Broadway shows, International Music Festivals, and local musicians’ live sets. We loved the advantages New York City had to offer, but eventually our dream of having a family led us to our home in the Hudson Valley.

We enjoy all the benefits of the area we live in by attending all sorts of community events. Weekend trips to the Craft Fair and the Apple Orchard. We love seeing live music. We also spend a lot of time at home, especially when the weather is warm, as Will loves to garden. That’s also when you will find us outdoors, typically enjoying our pool, and BBQ-ing with family and friends on the weekend. We love to host dinner parties and babysit for friends.

Together, we enjoy date nights out in the city, trying new restaurants, traveling together and exploring the world, and love music and dancing. We are always happy to have a new experience, and we are never short on topics of conversation. We really enjoy each other’s company, and always spend time laughing and chatting.

About Brandon

Through Will’s Eyes

Brandon is a natural born nurturer. He is the first friend a person will call no matter the occasion, no matter the challenge, who can be counted on to defend you and speak up when others may be afraid. Brandon has a natural ability to connect with people from all walks of life. He was raised as a younger child by his mom, who, despite the struggles that often come with being a provider as a working mother, made sure that Brandon had every opportunity and was exposed to as many extra-curriculars as he wanted or needed.  As a teen, he lived with his father who continued offering many different opportunities for Brandon to explore.

Through these experiences, he discovered his life-long passion for the stage. He started acting in youth theater in high school, and continued his focus on theater through college. Over the years we have been together, I have watched him grow professionally and thrive while performing and it is truly such a joy.

Brandon loves being active, and enjoys fitness and yoga. He has poise and grace! He is really a natural athlete – I watched him learn to ski after only one hour of lessons from a friend and ended up conquering challenging slopes that same day. Depending on the weather, he takes the dogs on long walks just about every day. He is a big reader (mostly fiction), and loves following docuseries, mystery shows, and British detective series or comedies, and reality TV, including Real Housewives. More recently, he has been flexing his skills as a fine cook  and I love getting to taste test all of his creations!

Brandon is extremely intuitive and empathic, with so much emotional depth.  It makes him an available, present and reliable husband, bestie, friend, son, brother, uncle, and eventually, parent. Brandon has always had an interest in childhood development, working as a camp counselor in high school, babysitting, and nannying in our early dating days. I got to see firsthand the positive impact he had on these kids. He also was able to build immediate and close bonds with my many nieces and nephews, from the first weekend he went to Buffalo to meet my family.

Brandon will parent with deep and unconditional, non-judgmental love, with strong intuition, and will be a completely available resource for your child.  He will make an exceptional co-parent, and I could not imagine trusting in sharing this journey with anyone else.

About Will

Through Brandon’s Eyes

Will is a physician working as a medical research scientist who specializes in kidneys and kidney diseases. He was raised in Buffalo, NY. He is the eldest of seven siblings. He has always been a special guy. Where the typical young boy was playing sports, Will was building replicas of Diocletian’s palace, or the Pantheon. He is a natural-born leader, and that was put to the test when his parents’ marriage ended in divorce when he was a teen. During that time, he had to shoulder a lot of the parenting of his two younger brothers. Because of that responsibility, his worldview was quite unique. He didn’t start his undergraduate degree until he was 24 years old and discovered his love of Chemistry, which led him to Medical School and beyond. A part of that beyond was studying Art History in England. All of these different experiences have led to his many and varied interests – all parts of him that I think are incredibly special.

When he’s not working, he is a house music aficionado. He loves music and if there is a dance floor, he is on it. Will also loves gardening and everyone who visits our home gets to enjoy the beauty of his efforts. He’s not a big screen time person but does enjoy a few episodes of Kath & Kim or British comedies from time to time. I would say he is most passionate about Lord of the Rings and he is an expert on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien.

Will is going to be a father who never judges and who always listens. He is honest to a fault, and he loves passionately. No one is perfect but Will’s love is pure and that is apparent whenever you’re in his presence.

Where We Live

We jokingly say that we live in a beautiful Colonial Revival “revival”. Our home has all the makings of a true colonial, but it was built in the 1990s! We are nestled at the end of a cozy lane in the Hudson Valley. Will has made a gorgeous garden for us that wraps around the most popular backyard activity, the pool. One day, Brandon made a comment in passing that a rose wall would be great on the garage instead of just white space. After a lot of planting and TLC, three years later, we got our first flush of red roses and other flowers, which now bloom every spring and remind us it will be warm again. Our home is always filled with laughter and music.

We are located just a few minutes’ drive to the center of the village, giving us easy access to the elementary school, community center, and playground, among other family-friendly resources, which we are looking forward to using through the years. Our neighborhood is a mix of longtime residents, and many new families like ours who have moved here more recently.

Our area of New York has been home to some of the world’s greatest musicians. The artistic flair is just a small part of the culture that appeals to us so much. Being a part of this community has given us an amazing amount of support and friends we will have forever. We are excited to raise a family here and watch your child grow in such a wonderful and diverse community.

We love to travel, and this has easily become one of our most celebrated traditions. One of our earliest points of connection was about the excitement we both had to see the world. We recently started the tradition of getting out of town for New Year’s Eve. We started by visiting Brandon’s godparents in Ecuador seven years ago. We have since spent NYE in Mexico and Buffalo with family, and NYC. Our engagement was in Italy, followed by sailing the Queen Mary with 12 friends and family. We were married in Mexico. We spent our Honeymoon in Japan. It’s a big part of our DNA to explore, and we are thrilled to be able to share that with your child.

We are very family oriented. We are fortunate to be close with our families, and we have also cultivated a chosen family that is top-notch. Will’s parents both remarried, and now he is the eldest of seven siblings. When we go out with his family, we are probably the loudest people in every restaurant we go to! Most of Will’s family is in the northeast, with Brandons in the south. Brandon’s parents both remarried, and he is the eldest of two. While Brandon has a small immediate family, the Carolina Crew goes deep.

We have a strong connection to both families. We have traveled to Canada to see music with Will’s siblings. We have gone to Fish Frys in North Carolina for the weekend. We just really enjoy spending time with our loved ones.

Everyone is so excited for us to grow our family through adoption. Will’s parents have been grandparents for many years, but Brandon’s parents are going to be first-time grandparents, and we know how excited everyone is to love your baby!

Holidays & Traditions

Celebrations are a big part of our family dynamic. In our community, there are parades to celebrate most things. Our favorites so far are the local Volunteer Celebration and the Halloween Parade. We have a big summer party every year in July, and we host Thanksgiving and Christmas at home. We are always very happy to be home on those special days because that is where we are happiest. The one holiday we enjoy being away for is Easter, which we spend with Will’s family in Buffalo. Our Easter egg hunt has 27 kids! Nothing can beat that.

We never need an excuse to celebrate and honor those we love. We cannot wait to carry on these traditions and start some new ones when we are lucky enough to become parents through adoption.

Thank you so much for getting to know us. We are so excited to welcome a new child to our family, and give them unconditional love, safety, and joy. We promise to show how much we care for them every day, to work for an amazing future for them, and to keep learning how to be the best parents we can be. We promise to share a sense of wonder in the world, to connect your child with a community that loves them, and to let them show us who they are.

We feel so lucky and honored that you are thinking of us and we look forward to the future so much.

With much love and gratitude,

Brandon & William
