Frequently Asked Questions

Can I have an open adoption and visits with the family that adopts my baby?

Yes, you get to choose the level of openness that you want with the family that adopts your baby. There are many ways to stay in touch, including visits, and we will help you and the adopting family come up with a plan together so that you can build a lifelong relationship with your child.

What if I am unsure of my decision?

There is never any pressure from any of us here at Hudson Hearts. We all fully understand just how big a decision this is and we want you to be sure before you move forward. We are here to help you explore all of your options, not just adoption. We really will be here for you every step of the way.

Can I choose the family for my baby?

Yes, you can choose the family for your baby. All of our families have put together a profile about themselves for you to read, see pictures, and get to know them. You can talk, text, and meet them as well. We want you to spend as much time as you need to feel sure that they are the perfect match for you and your baby.

Can I have help with my expenses?

Yes, you can have help in paying for your rent, groceries, phone, utilities, maternity clothing, transportation and child care.

How will I know if my baby will be safe with the adopting family?

Every family that we work with has gone through a thorough screening process (including child abuse clearances) and has a completed and state-approved Homestudy. The families we work with have been waiting to welcome a baby into their lives and are ready to love and keep your baby safe. And after you have placed your baby in their home, our families continue to have post-placement supervision.

Can I make an adoption plan if I am in labor or have already delivered my baby?

Yes, we can help you make an adoption plan at any stage of your pregnancy, including if you are in labor or if you have already delivered. It is not unusual for women to reach out at different times – we understand and are here for you whenever you are ready.

Can I see my baby in the hospital?

Yes, you can spend as much time with your baby in the hospital as you would like.

Will my baby go home from the hospital with the adopting family?

Yes, in most cases, your baby will go home from the hospital with the adopting parents.

When do I sign the adoption papers?

Every state has their own set of laws surrounding the timing of you signing the adoption paperwork. We will review all of those details with you so that you have a full understanding of what the process would look like, step by step.

Will it cost me anything to place my baby for adoption?

It will not cost you anything to place your baby for adoption. In fact, you will be able to receive assistance with your expenses.

Can I keep my adoption plan confidential?

Yes, your confidentiality is our priority. This is your plan and so you get to choose who you want to share your story with. We will support your choices every step of the way.

What is different about Hudson Hearts from all of the other agencies?

We are an all female staff of women who have been very personally touched and connected to adoption. This isn’t just our work, it is our life’s work. We are adoptees, birth mothers and adoptive parents and we are all here for you. And we are here for the long run – we will be here to help and support you even after you have placed your baby.

Can I have help with counseling?

Yes, we believe that counseling is an important part of your adoption journey, including after you have delivered and placed your baby. We will always be available to help you find a counselor.

Can I have help finding a doctor?
