Doris & Andy
Hi there and welcome to our story. It means so much to us that you’re here, taking a few minutes or even seconds to learn about us. But this story is not just about us. It’s also about you – what you’re feeling and what you’re going through. Though we aren’t in your shoes, we know that the choice you are trying to make is not easy – but we believe you are making it with so much love.
As you read on, you will find out not just about our life together but how we plan to love and raise your baby. We are an open book so please let us know if you have any questions at all. We promise to come to this with honesty and respect, always.
We know that this is huge: it feels huge to us, too. We hope that by getting to know us, we’ve helped you, in some small way, in the journey that lies ahead.
With love and gratitude,
Doris & Andy

Our Adoption Story & Promise To You
We’ve been trying to start a family for nearly six years, the last few of which involved multiple IVF cycles. What we learned along the way is how difficult it is to prepare oneself for the physical and emotional toll fertility treatment can take on people. After quite a few rounds with no results, we decided to stop completely.
This break really gave us a chance to take stock in what our priorities were and what always came out on top was our desire to become parents. It’s been a long journey to get here, but we actually started talking about adoption when we first began dating. Way before we knew we’d have problems conceiving, adoption was something we were interested in learning about, and it was always on our minds.
Our relationship is so much stronger after the hard times we’ve been through. We learned a lot about ourselves and each other. We can honestly say we’ve become more patient, more humble, and better able to handle whatever life throws our way.
We have talked a lot with each other about how we want to raise your child, and we both believe that the most important thing is to be patient, kind, and to let them be whoever they want to be. Doris’ dream is to spend summers with a child at a pool or a lake. Andy’s dream is to take them camping. We both want to share our passions for books, travel, and animals with your child. But more than anything, we want to let them share their own passions with us. Learning about them and what makes them happy will be our greatest joy. We promise to love your baby unconditionally – always and no matter what. We will guide them with values, respect, and love.
If you are open to sharing, we would love to know what is most important to you. We promise to honor you throughout your child’s life – they will grow up knowing about the selfless decision you made for them and about your undeniable love.

About Us
We met and started dating 16 years ago when we were practically babies, lol. We met at a friend’s birthday party. Doris thought that Andy looked kind of like Shaggy from Scooby Doo, and Andy thought Doris was pretty. Andy asked Doris out to dinner, to which she said no, but then she changed her mind and asked him out instead.
We spent our 20s and early 30s moving around the world from Europe to the Middle East, sometimes together and sometimes doing long-distance. Doris worked for nonprofits, and Andy was a diplomat. We both loved learning about different ways of life, about the cultures and politics of other countries, and meeting people from all over. Then we got a little older and wanted to settle down to start a family, so we moved to the cutest town we’d ever seen (more about that later).
We’re very different people with our own hobbies, but what we love to do together is hang out with our dog and cat and watch comedy – everything from The Office to Ted Lasso. We travel together to visit our friends and have been getting together with the same Friendsgiving crew for over a decade.
About Doris
I grew up in New Jersey and even though I’ve lived all over, New Jersey is still pretty much my identity. I’m Latina: I grew up speaking Spanish at home and spending Christmas with my very big extended family in Peru. I’m pretty much the same person I’ve been since I was a little girl. I always have my nose in a book, and my happy place is lying on the grass in our backyard daydreaming or splashing around at our local pool.
I started my career working for nonprofits abroad as a researcher and project manager. Eventually I got an itch to do something more creative, and I now work as a designer and writer for a music app. I love making people happy through my work.
I can be a little shy and introverted sometimes, but my best friends are my ride or dies. I love having heart to hearts with people and really getting to know each other’s thoughts and feelings. I think I’ll be a parent who encourages a child to be curious and explore. I’ll want to help them know their own feelings and that it’s OK to feel however they feel.
About Andy
I’m British, and I grew up in a little village in the English countryside. So I feel at home in the small town where we live now. I love traveling and wanted to see the world since I was a kid. When I was a diplomat, I went on assignments to countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia. I love going on adventures.
I now work for a climate advocacy NGO, where I run operations. Public service is really important to me, so even though I don’t work for the government anymore, I serve my community as a volunteer firefighter.
Doris calls me an Energizer Bunny, and it’s true that I like to keep busy. I have a lot of hobbies, from standup comedy to barbecuing to photography. I’m also fixing up our house. My favorite thing to do is go hiking and camping with our dog (Doris sometimes comes, too). As a parent, I want to spend a lot of time outdoors with your child, showing them everything nature has to offer. I can see myself being a Girls or Boys Scout troop leader one day!
Our Home
Doris has loved the TV show Gilmore Girls since she was little and always dreamed of living in a place like Stars Hollow, where the show is set. We think the small town we now call home is a pretty close match. We are located in upstate New York on the Hudson River. Our town has a tightknit community where neighbors help each other out. It has a local fire department (where Andy is a volunteer firefighter) that runs local traditions like a Halloween children’s parade and a Christmas tree lighting every year.
Our home is an old house with a big backyard and a patch of woods next to a creek. Before we moved in, it was owned by two artists, so it’s full of light and has a quirky vibe. It still feels like an artist’s loft. We love opening our back door and seeing everything from deer to groundhogs to chipmunks. We can walk to our local downtown to visit cafes, the library, and a farmer’s market. We can also walk to hiking trails, where we take our dog every day, and a state park.
We are in close proximity to some amazing schools, parks and recreational activities. We chose to live here because we think it is a perfect place to raise a family.
Family and Loved Ones
Doris’ dad and sister live in Delaware, and her brother lives in New York City. Her mom died from cancer when Doris was 14 and we keep her memory alive as much as we can. We all get together every few months to eat Peruvian food and watch sci-fi movies. The family has just as many cats as there are people, and our family group chat is mostly just photos of our cats.
Andy’s family are all in England, and they come to visit multiple times a year. His parents still live in the same village where Andy grew up. They’ve already been devoted grandparents to our niece and nephew (Andy’s sister and her husband have two young kids), who are both obsessed with Harry Potter. We are in love with them and really enjoy spending as much time together as possible during the visits.
Both our families are excited for us to adopt a child and have supported us every step of the way. They’re ready to welcome them into our family and we know we will have instant volunteers ready to help out and babysit. Doris’ sister will knit baby clothes and Andy’s mom will come stay with us to help with the newborn phase.
Our Pets
We’re kind of obsessed with our pets. We got Tally, our cat, first. She’s the queen of the house and bosses the dog around all day. Ronnie, our dog, is a Labrador mix. He’s a big ball of love and never runs out of energy.
They’ve both moved around with us a bit, so we’ve helped them adjust to new places a few times. Tally now spends most of her time sitting outside on our deck, observing her kingdom and occasionally chasing things. Andy often goes for runs on our local trails with Ronnie (who could honestly outrun even a marathon runner!).
On weekend nights, you’ll usually find us on the sofa snuggled together with both Ronnie and Tally, watching a movie. It’s the best.
Holiday & Traditions
Doris is really into holidays, and Andy thinks it’s cute how much she likes them. One of the reasons we moved to America, where she grew up, is because of how much she missed celebrating American holidays.
Halloween is a big deal where we live, and Doris is trying to put up bigger and better decorations every year. We go to our local costume parades and can’t wait to let your child pick out a costume and take them trick-or-treating.
We usually do a double feature for Thanksgiving: first a Friendsgiving with some of our closest friends and their kids, and then Thanksgiving Day with Doris’ family. It’s a low-key vibe (they’re a low-key family): we pick up pies from the bakery near her childhood home, Doris’ brother will roast something delicious, and then we collapse on the sofa and bicker over what movie to watch. We sometimes visit Doris’ mom’s grave which fills our hearts with the love she had for us.
For Christmas, Andy’s mom hosts a magical family gathering in England. Everyone still gets stockings stuffed with presents, no matter how old you are. She cooks a million dishes and desserts (we help), our niece and nephew open lots of little presents, and after eating, we go for a short hike through the country fields nearby. There’s usually some Christmas episode on TV that we all watch until we fall asleep.
We are really looking forward to continuing these traditions but also starting new ones as a family of three one day!
We’re so grateful you took the time to read about us. We want to raise your child to be kind and curious. We were blessed with great families, and we’ve learned a lot from them about how to be parents. We promise that your child will always be our #1 priority. We will always put their needs first, and we will make sure they grow up to know the selfless choice you made for them.
We know you have a really tough decision to make. If you feel a connection to us, we would love to learn how we can honor you and walk down this path together.
With love and gratitude,
Doris & Andy
