Our Adoption Story & Promise to You

From the time we met, we always knew we wanted to have a family together. After we got married, we decided to try IVF which proved unsuccessful, and before going any further, we knew it was time to stop our fertility treatment journey. We came to this decision with relief and turned our hearts to adoption knowing there were no questions left unanswered.

We hold so much hope and excitement for the future and hope to raise your child by fostering a love for learning and nurturing their imagination. We look forward to creating a family that grows and thrives together over time, creating memories that make up a warm, loving, and fulfilling lifetime for your baby. We promise your child will grow up with a sense of respect, pride, and appreciation in knowing you and their story. Your child will be raised by two people with huge open hearts, who love unconditionally, and who love to laugh along the way.

We are so excited to become parents through adoption and we are here to answer any questions you have for us. We want you to feel comfortable with your decision and know that you will always have our respect, no matter what.

About Us

We met in 2012 through eHarmony. Jamie was so drawn to Gerard’s profile she decided to message him first instead of waiting to see if he would view the match and reach out. Luck and fate were on our side that day because Gerard had logged on to delete his account, and instead, he returned Jamie’s message. We both quickly felt a sense we had known each other our whole lives. The more we talked, the more we learned about all of our similarities – not just in personalities, but in life experiences too.

As we started dating, we enjoyed sharing interests and adventures and also learned the importance of teamwork in a relationship. We started planning for our future together and then on a quiet evening, Gerard used his telescope (one of his favorite gifts from Jamie) to light up a ring against a perfect view of a full moon and proposed. We have been married for the past eight years and are ready more than ever to become parents through adoption.

Years later, we enjoy spending time together through our shared passion for historic reenactments, skating, camping, kayaking, and playing music. On week nights, you will find us food prepping with Pandora in the background playing anything from Broadway to classical toManeskinn or watching a funny movie. We spend our free time and weekends exploring new places to go on dates or adventures, sitting by the beach with a coffee, and spending time with our friends and family sharing meals. We also enjoy doing home projects together, babysitting our nieces and nephews, and of course, spending the holidays together.

About Jamie

Jamie grew up in a small seaside town on Long Island with her mom, dad, sister, and brother. Jamie’s family is made up of several generations of law enforcement personnel and teachers, including herself and her siblings. Jamie has always had a strong appreciation for the opportunities she was given, from sailing to music lessons, that have helped shape her into the person she is today. Jamie is the youngest of three and has always valued the close bonds she shares with her immediate and extended family. She enjoys making memories with the people she loves most, going to the beach, big family holidays, her neighborhood traditions, and family vacations with her cousins. Jamie loves talking with and learning from others, cooking and enjoying good food, and making time for her hobbies. She loves being an aunt, caring for dogs at a local rescue, and helping out our local high school drama club.

“Jamie is such a genuine person and is not only loved by me but loved by her family, friends, and neighbors. She is always trying to help others as she tries to grow and improve herself on a daily basis. I am so impressed with how involved in the community she is. Jamie is an avid reader and is always learning new things and sharing her knowledge. She has taught me so much and I am a better person for it.

Jamie has worked as a crime victim advocate for over 10 years and has recently become a certified animal-assisted therapy professional. Jamie is incredibly grateful to be able to support those she works with in such a meaningful way as she has deep empathy for others.

I am honored to call Jamie not just my wife, but my best friend. Jamie will be an excellent mom one day – she is incredibly nurturing (one of her many amazing qualities!) and is a great person to lean on in troubled times and whose warmth and comfort bring happiness and ease to those around her.”

About Gerard

Gerard grew up in a suburban town in central Long Island with his mom, her boyfriend, and his younger brother. Although his parents separated, Gerard grew up speaking Italian on his father’s side and can still speak and understand it conversationally today! Gerard’s maternal grandparents were very strong role models who instilled in him a strong sense of family. He loves spending time with and supporting his family, and their strength and encouragement is very important to him.

Gerard credits the support of his family and community for achieving his goal of getting his small aircraft pilot’s license. Gerard’s family is always there to lend a hand to one another, and they enjoy celebrating quiet holidays together.

Gerard truly enjoys a good laugh, taking on new experiences, learning about other cultures, history, and languages, picking up new instruments (recently the snare drum) cooking with Jamie, and finding downtime to unwind. He also loves hockey, most anything science-related, supporting our local airfield, and of course, being an uncle.

“Gerard is a gentle and unassuming man who I am proud to call my husband. His motivation to be the best version of himself and lift others with him is a quality that I will always admire in him. His character, grit, positivity, and kindness are just some of the parts of him that always impress me. I can say with confidence that I can always rely on him to follow through on any idea that comes to mind, whether it’s my mind, his own mind, or an idea we start together. Gerard is the type of man who enjoys making others laugh and feel good about themselves. Gerard is deeply involved in the community through historical reenactments and is also a member of our local airfield. Gerard studied Aviation Science and Human Services and recently began another chapter of his career in public service by becoming a career counselor.

One of Gerard’s strongest desires is to be a role model, and I cannot wait to see him take on that role as a father. I know Gerard will be a great Dad!”

Our Home

We live in a two-story Cape style home on Long Island, with four bedrooms and a spacious fenced-in backyard. Our favorite spot inside our home is our living room but our backyard is our sanctuary, and we can’t wait to play outside as a family on warm summer nights or cozy snow days and everything in between! It is also the best spot for the most beautiful sunrises! We have continued to put a lot of love into our home with projects and renovations to make it our own, and to have room to grow! We have spent the last eight years making our house a home and nothing makes us happier than filling it with happy memories.

Our neighborhood is close-knit and we are surrounded by a wonderful community. Schools, beaches, our library, restaurants, and more are all within walking distance. We feel really lucky to have a deep connection to our community and that we live in an area that supports our interests and our dream of raising a family here.

Our Adventures

Jamie’s family has many seasonal and holiday traditions that have evolved through the generations and have created some of the most meaningful memories. Her favorite part is the time she spends preparing for these gatherings with her mom, sister, and sister-in-law, including the side dishes on Thanksgiving and Christmas cookies which now include her gingerbread treats and Manicotti!

Gerard’s family has always placed special importance on celebrating birthdays, Sunday dinners at Grandma’s, and most recently a big family reunion planned by his mom’s cousins.
We are so grateful that our families have grown to include each other in traditions such as Mother’s Day brunch and summer BBQs. And as a couple, we are also proud of the traditions we have built together like Chinese take-out after reenactments, the backyard Olympics, and decorating our home for Christmas. We are so excited to share our traditions and build new ones as a family of three one day.

Jamie is the youngest of three children and has always shared a close connection with her immediate and extended family (including friends who we consider to be family). In fact, we all still live within 5 minutes of each other! This is truly a blessing, and we are a close village with our nephew and two nieces becoming the next generation of her family. While Jamie’s extended family spans a few states, our family ties know no distance. With Grandma’s hugs and Pop’s advice awaiting a little one, Aunts and Uncles ready to induct us into the tribe of parents, and an adorable motley crew of cousins to grow up with, we are so lucky to be surrounded by so much love and support.

Gerard is the oldest child in his family and his extended family includes his grandmother, aunt, uncle, two cousins, and his cousins’ children. Most everyone lives within 30 minutes, and we all enjoy getting together for any occasion, whether it is quiet Sundays at Grandma’s, the holidays, or recently, a family reunion. Adding a new baby to his family would be met with so much excitement and joy including Gerard’s mom making herself available to lend love and a happy extra hand, Gerard’s cousin hand-crafting decorations for milestone celebrations, Gerard’s brother and sister-in-law planning adventures with a new niece or nephew and story time with great grandma.

Since beginning our adoption journey, everyone has been so incredibly supportive and excited for us to welcome a new little one into our family to love and shower with attention.

Although our journey to parenthood has taken a somewhat winding road, we feel such a sense of peace as our path together makes more sense than ever before. We are so thankful that you have taken the time to get to know us so intimately and we wish more than anything that reading our story has given you a sense of comfort. We can’t help but believe that sometimes the universe works in mysterious (but intentional) ways and hopefully some of this will lead us to sharing a connection with you and your baby too. We are here to answer any questions you have and wish you only the best, no matter what you decide.

With love and gratitude,

Jamie & Gerard
